I love a good pink gin. And I love the English Drinks Company. So you can imagine my excitement when this arrived on my desk this morning. Just like the other drinks in the English Drinks Company line, the simple design of the bottle belies the complex tasting, quality gin that it holds.
Not wanting to waste any time, I poured an ample measure into a glass - straight on the rocks, you know me! Just like their cucumber gin I tried only a few days ago, it holds a pleasantly light fragrance that holds hints of fruitiness. Tasting reveals a similar profile, with subtle notes of pomegranate amongst the juniper-lead flavour. I could also detect hints of quinine, which is what gives tonic water it's flavour - likely due to the cinchona bark used in the distillation process, which is where tonic water's flavour actually comes from.
Overall, this was exactly what I'd expect from a distillery like the English Drinks Company - an elegant, well balanced flavour with bitterness and sweetness in harmony. It's truly a fantastic pink gin.
