Witness our very 1st ever Gin Club - and being a local carrot crunching Norwich boy myself, what better one to choose than Bullards flagship London Dry.

Upon calling co-founders Craig and Peter, I discovered two things; first of all the name comes from the Anchor Brewery ran by Harry Bullard in 1837 (which has quite the story), and the second thing is how they have only one rule: to make all their gins with tonka beans. A mystifying botanical that Craig once baked into a fudge cake and loved. ...Yes, quite mad - but who's to say it didn't work out?

The bespoke shape of the bottle is something to admire. It is directly inspired by the Bullard's chimney stack that towered over Norwich for over 100 years. It's almost a shame to open it, but open it I will, as there is no other way to embrace the full tonka bean experience and provide the juiciest of details for you here.

So with a glass in front of me, allow me to share: the nose on this is poetic, full of lime, pine and savoury thyme that leads to a soft creamy (almost oily) palate with juniper leading nicely into honey, coriander and juicy orange flavours that linger until it finishes in a climax of spices, mixed peels and fresh mint. The splash of tonic toned the finish down, but the end result is very appealing.
