Sadō Gin (our January 2021 Gin Club) is a 46% small craft Gin made in the UK but inspired by Adam (the founder) and his many travels across Japan.

The name in Japanese means "The Way of Tea", and it is produced 200 bottles at a time using a unique botanical blend of Hojicha roasted green tea leaves, orris root, coriander, elderflower, orange peel, lemongrass and pink peppercorn. As a fully paid-up member of the "Tea Loving Brit Society" this one had me intrigued.

So, let's get to it... As always, I sip it straight to let the Gin fully reveal itself and this one did so effortlessly. With its distinctive roasty green tea character and earthy citrus aroma that continued onto the palate, balanced by subtle floral and herbal tones before finishing long with a tiny, sweet caramel flourish that did not overpower in the slightest. A real winner this, refreshing and versatile as it is delightful and unique!

All in all, this gin is a big hit for me and is up there with the best. So naturally I had to have a few more sips with various tonics. Even diluted with hot water (yes hot water, try it!), each and every time this complemented anything and before I knew it half the bottle was gone. But half of 50cl doesn't sound bad. ...Does it?
